Music is essential to a well-rounded academic experience, helping students gain skills that are useful in all areas of life. By starting music education at a young age, OLG students are encouraged to become lifelong learners with an appreciation for the arts.
Pre-K through 8th grade students join Mr. Barrios each week to grow academically, socially, and spiritually through a love of music. Younger students learn through hands-on activities and songs that teach music concepts like tempo and rhythm, while older students also use technology to learn about musical concepts, using games and activities to supplement lessons, and participate in group projects to encourage collaboration. Music history, multicultural music, and music theory are explored throughout the year for all grades.
Mr. Barrios also leads our two school choirs, available to interested students in grades 3 through 8.
